Even though it has an ideal climate almost every month of the year, when the sky pours white in winter, this place looks divine. The white fluffy snow covering the city makes it picturesque; the morning sun shining over the snow makes the place shine and leaves people gazing.

Although little is known about the city's early history, some sources take us back to 1716. It was the year when the hermetic monastery was constructed in Gangtok. It was a small village back then, but in 1840, this place became widely popular as a pilgrim center. This was because of the construction of the Enchey Monastery.

Then, Sikkim allied with the Britishers to uproot the invasion of Nepal. This incident sowed the seeds of British rule in the lands of Sikkim. During the 19th century, English officials realized the military and trade potential in the region.

Since the eighteenth century, Gangtok has been winning the hearts of tourists. The area's tranquillity draws visitors from all over, making it one of the most popular destinations. This place welcomes people with the same charm throughout the year. However, keeping in mind the temperature and climate, September to June makes the ideal time for a Gangtok visit.

May it be the unmatched natural beauty or an adrenaline rush from adventurous activities, Gangtok offers a variety of possibilities that the visitors' hearts want. So, when you long for peace in the midst of a chaotic life, Gangtok can be the place you need.

Gangtok was a thriving city during this period. Along with the advancement in trade, the infrastructure and communication sectors also flourished. The emperor of Sikkim, Thutob Namgyal, also shifted the state's capital from Tumlong to Gangtok. He drained a maximum amount of his riches by making grand palaces and buildings in the new capital, Gangtok.
