Every now and then there is news that some stunning new youth from India has taken over the world with their performance or their skill, no matter in what field. There have been stellar instances in all kinds of fields starting from entertainment to science, all the way to Olympics or perhaps sports.

One such stellar performer from India hails from Manipur. Being from a backward Manipur family, this magnificent girl has two siblings, she being the eldest. Mangte Chungneijang was born in the Kagathei village of the rural area of Manipur.

As she hailed from a backward family, she grew up with a lot of ups and downs. She used to help her parents with the household work as well as farm related chores. Due to her work in her farm, she grew very close to the cow they had. This was not just the case with Chungneijang but her siblings too.

Regardless of how much of a backward class she was from, Chungneijang was a headstrong girl who could fight for whatever she wanted and win as well. This wasn’t just said but it was also proved by her.

Where both her parents wanted to get her married and be sent off to a nice household, Chungneijang wanted to become a boxer. Getting to know this and her father being an ex-boxer himself, didn’t support his daughter at first thinking that if she gets hurt on her face, no one will want to marry her.

Not caring much about her parents as they didn’t care about their daughter either, Chungneijang pursued boxing but kept it hidden from her father. It wasn’t long before her father got to know about her hidden pursuits and disowned his daughter.

However, Chungneijang changed her father’s perspective towards her and her dream of boxing when she won the state boxing championship and had her picture printed in the newspaper. Her father, from thereon supported her with everything.

As she moved forward, she kept winning hearts. With this, her coach also gave her a new name. Mangte Chungneijang became the infamous lady boxer Mary Kom. Mary Kom went on to fight in the Olympics that took place in the year 2012 and bagged the third position becoming the first Indian woman to qualify for a boxing event in the Olympics.

Climbing the stairs to her dreamt stars, Mary was still a woman living in the Indian society. Hence, not soon enough, she got married and had children. Due to her pregnancy, she had to pause her boxing career for a while. However, as she proved it once before, she did it again that nothing could stop her from doing what she wanted. Soon enough after that, Mary once again started training for boxing, shutting every mouth that said she can’t continue after marriage or after having children.

Moving up the chain of change, Mary Kom is now an Indian amateur boxer, a politician being a member of the Rajya Sabha and the winner of the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times. Being herself, she gave the courage and the will power to a lot of women to become headstrong themselves and pursue their dreams as and when they wanted.
