Reita was born in the city of Mumbai to a middle-class family with a very normal upbringing. The young Reita would never have imagined that she was on a journey to create history. She was a determined student and had a dream of becoming a doctor. Her dream initially made her reluctant to participate in the pageant, but her sister motivated her to do so.

She climbed the first step by becoming Miss Bombay and then Miss India. She became a girl, willing to take on the world after her win. She was selected for the Miss World contest in 1966, and her journey toward London was set.

Once she came out of her country, she felt the struggle. She carried a suitcase, which was only 3 pounds, some borrowed dresses from her friends, and a mini makeup kit. She was shattered when she looked at her competitors, with designer wardrobes and excellent beauticians. Her confidence dropped like a pack of cards. But she had to do it. A glorious life was awaiting her.

People's mouths dropped open when she descended the ramp while wearing a swimsuit. They were stunned. She won the sub-title of 'Best in Swimsuit' for it and 'Best in Eveningwear' for the elegant saree she wore. Leaving 51 contestants behind, she made her way to the finale.

Since she was very passionate about being a doctor, she was asked why she wanted to become a doctor, to which she replied, "India needed more obstetricians and gynecologists." The juries kept their cross question that there are already so many babies in India, to which Faria replied, "That was something we needed to discourage!" Her answers blew the minds of the juries. Finally, on November 17, 1966, Reita became the first Asian woman to become Miss World.

She brought the laurels to India with the crown on her head and pride in her eyes. She was now all ready to rule the glamour industry. She got many films offered by directors, who were eager to work with her, but she rejected them all!

She continued her journey of becoming a doctor and went to the Grant Medical College and Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals to complete her M.B.B.S. Later; she continued her education at King's College Hospital in London. She achieved her dream and became well-known as a physician as well as the first Miss World.

In 1971, she married David Powell. Years back, when Reita walked down the ramp for Miss World, David sat in the crowd engrossed in her beauty. Since then, he had already fallen in love with her. After marriage, the medico couple moved to Dublin.

Presently, she is happily settled in Ireland with her husband and two daughters. She created a legacy and served as an inspiration for many modern ladies. A lady who not only won the hearts of everyone but also strived to realize her ambition.
