It has been 5000 years since Ayurveda has started being practiced in India. It was found in the historical scriptures which were known as Vedas and were written by the then Gurus and teachers. The literary works which offered the knowledge of medicine and medical remedies has been termed as Atharvaveda

The Vedas were the only way to gain knowledge back in 800 BC. They were believed to have magical practices in them to guide people to get rid of the diseases. Not just magical practices but the Vedas were also believed to have charms in order to send the demon away who was basically held responsible for people to get a hold of diseases in the first place.

Although Ayurveda was considered to be the traditional medicinal system of India, it was modified as a medicinal system and now includes practices such as Yoga in it too.

Since the origin of the Ayurveda took place 5000 years ago, it was initially attributed to the historical physician Dhanvantari. Dhanvantari was the physician of the gods of Indian mythology. Ayurveda was attributed to Dhanvantari by God Brahma.

The people who practice Ayurveda believe that the human body is made up of five elements. The elements are fire, water, earth, air, and space. Not only this but it is also believed by the same people that only when the body, mind, and spirit are in harmony together with the universe, does a person have good health and stay healthy.

Although it is believed that the body is made up of the five natural elements, none of the elements works as an individual. These elements combine with each other in the form of a human body. Their combinations are known as Doshas which are responsible for the initial working of the body. These Doshas divide and combine the elements into three parts, becoming three in number themselves.

The three Doshas are the Vata Dosha which is the combination of space and air. Then there is the Pitta Dosha which is the combination of fire and water. Lastly, there is the Kapha Dosha which combines earth and water.

Despite the fact that 90% of the population in India are supporters of the ayurvedic medicinal system, there are others who do not. There always have been people who doubted the working percentage of the traditional system of Ayurveda.

As functional and effective the Ayurveda system is, there are certain precautions that have to be taken care of in order for the medicines to work their best and show their magic. Just like every other thing, Ayurveda also has two sides. In order for it to work properly, one has to maintain their hygiene properly, in terms of both personal and social one. This is also called the preventive side of this traditional method.

The other aspect of Ayurveda is the curative aspect which involves things such as diet, physiotherapy, and herbal medicines along with some other things. However, this being a type of curing method, every treatment as well as aspect depends on the requirements and the needs of the patients. Not only that but the belief in the Ayurveda system that it will work has to be there.

Despite being a method used majorly for curing diseases or perhaps curing a human body, it is not necessary that Ayurveda is only used for that purpose. Due to the modernization in the traditional system, there have been practices introduced that aim at keeping a person healthy and not just curing his diseases. However, it sure is a method one can trust when it comes to the field of medicine.
