Whenever we take the name of Milind Soman, the picture which comes to our mind is, how can a person be so fit and active! A supermodel, a mentor, an actor and what not! If you turn on the television, there’s Milind Soman mentoring some of the most elegant supermodels in India’s Next Supermodel. If you are aimlessly scrolling through Instagram, you will definitely come across his ultra fitness regime videos. A man, who’s no less than a Male Venus, a dream hunk of the ladies, Milind Soman is one of a kind in the B-Town.

Though he is a Maharashtrian, he was born in Glasgow in 1965. His family moved back to India in 1973, bringing him back to his roots. He went to the Junior College of Commerce and attained a Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

His name echoes throughout the country with the arrival of Alisha Chinoi’s Made In India. He was a winner of a national swimming title (1984) and was a champion four times in a row. He shifted his course to something else, modelling afterwards. When he was sent to the campaigning of suits, he was rejected on the grounds of being too young.

The rejection wasn’t all bad. Ratna Behl, who perceived his keenness for modeling, called him up for an opportunity. It was a time, completely devoid of the pizzazz and glamour of today’s fashion world. He was instructed to change clothes and to be clicked. For this, he signed 50,000 rupees, an amount which was unimaginable to him. His modeling career was inaugurated with Thakersay Fabrics, and Soman became the face of a ‘supermodel’.

The title soon changed to ‘India’s first supermodel’. Soman received a backlash from the sensual advertisement of shoes, co-starring his interest of complexities, Madhu Sapre. There, he presented his opinion, “It is strange that the same people who raise a hue and cry about a low cut dress don’t object to numerous everyday things which are illegal.”

Television proved to be the epitome of opportunities for Soman. He was offered a role in Dayra by Amol Palekar. He might define the acceptance of the role as ‘almost’ since he went on to with his part in India’s first English soap, A Mouthful of Sky. Soman, with his dear friend Parvati Balagopalan, started the venture of his own production in 1996. He produced serials like Hubahu and Margarita. He experimented with the serials and didn’t restrict them into a particular category or storyline. Tanha was a war-torn story of Indo-Pak discrepancies, which he took as one of his favourites. There were Noor Jahan and Captain Vyom as well.

Milind Soman was soon offered various roles in movies and films. After witnessing Tanha, he was offered Tarkeib by Ismail Shroff in 199. It was a murder mystery. Though Agnivarsha wasn’t quite a hit, December 16 proved to be a success. He admired offbeat films, but the audience and the critics didn’t respond to them quite well. Films stopped exciting him.

His mantra of “I don’t care what people think if I am convinced about what I am doing” has led him out of several gossips and social media trending headlines. Soman is still considered a heartthrob of many young maidens of India.

He, whose confidence has taken him from national to international stages, and, he, who doesn't lend an ear to the whispers of controversies.
