Take a moment out of your busy day to spare a glance at your little kitty. Do you not think that this tiny one, who has brought you undisputable happiness, deserves a day to celebrate its life? This is what the International Cat Day is for!

August 8 is reserved every year to pay homage to these popular pets, who have carved a special place for themselves among humans. With cat owners everywhere showing off their darling kitty on the internet, it is safe to say that cats dotake over the internet on this day. And it is a sight to behold!

The day was officially dubbed International Cat Day by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, an animal rights organisation, in the year 2002. The thought behind this action was to create an occasion that spreads awareness about the proper treatment for cats. The International Cat Care organisation, the now custodians of Cat Day, comes up with fun themes to make the day more interesting each year.

Cats are perhaps one of the most misunderstood creatures. They are deemed standoffish and feral. But the truth is that most of these fur babies do not receive the right love and care, which makes them wary of human beings. Cats, if treated well, are very understanding creatures, and do not demand high maintenance.

Regardless, they are living beings who deserve a basic amount of respect, if not much more. Many people do not about the dietary requirements that need to be met in the meals of a cat, or the various kinds of sickness that can sneak up on them. It is very important, especially for a pet owner, to be aware of these specifics.

If there is one thing that a cat-lover would attest to, it is that one can never do enough for the joys cats provide simply by existing. The increasing cases of cruel treatment of these beings is a good enough reason why the world needs more information about the proper way to treat them. Many animal welfare organisations have special seminars on this day to teach people the right way to handle a cat.

So this International Cat Day, go out of your way to have an extra special day for a cat. Maybe use it as an excuse to finally adopt that pet that you have been secretly eyeing. Or if you already have one, get some extra special treats or a new toy for it. Use it as a way to raise your voice for the cause of the ethical treatment of cats. You can even volunteer at your nearest animal shelter and spend some time with these whiskered creatures. There is plenty that can be done at this event.

Your kitten may or may not have a decided birth date, but no worries! You now have an excuse to celebrate them and their cute little paws on August 8. It is the day to embrace your inner fondness for cats.
